Other news

"SNL" has announced some upcoming hosts - Jaime Pressly, John C. Reilly and Hugh Laurie. From "Poison Ivy 3: "The New Seduction" to "Saturday Night Live" host in under a decade. Good going.

"Cartoon Network Completes Production on First Original Live-Action Movie, 'Re-Animated'" - not really sticking with their strengths, is it? Also sends sort of a mixed message.

"Studio 60" has fallen to third place in just three weeks, beaten by "CSI: Miami" and "The Bachelor"...that's right, even with "Pimp My Trike." Hey, I'm not the only person who thinks the sketches suck.

"Eurkea" is just about renewed. It didn't take a town full of super-geniuses to see that one coming! Right?! Get it? Like the show?

Things to do in L.A. if you're dead

I just heard the hardest of hard sells on my television:

"If you are going to be in the Los Angeles area and would like to be part of the 'Last Call with Carson Daly' studio audience..."

What has to go wrong in your life to make that sound appealing?

Channel Surfing for Tuesday, October 3

Despite all the great reviews, I have very little interest in "Friday Night Lights." Maybe if it was about a high school academic decathlon team (speaking of NBC dramas though, I did record "Heroes," and will check it very soon. People actually asked me if I liked it, oddly enough, I guess because of my comic book fetish).

But, we've also got the "Veronica Mars" season premiere tonight - it's real good, and the next episode gets even better (am I biased because the second episode has a "Boy Meets World" vet in it? Yes. Yes I am).

Veronica Mars
8 p.m., The CW

Veronica (Kristen Bell) moves to college this season, picking up with the campus serial rapist story introduced last season. V-Mars is still living at home with her dad (Enrico Colantoni), but we’ve got new characters like Wallace’s (Percy Daggs III) roommate Piz (Chris Lowell) and Mac’s (Tina Majorino) dorm buddy Parker (Julie Gonzalo). And oh, yeah, someone dies (I'm not telling).

Alright, I'll be honest. If you give me some change for the vending machine I'll whisper who dies in your ear, but I'll be doing it with a mouth full of Garfield chocobites so it might be unclear.

"Friday Night Lights," the "Eureka" season finale, a sure to be hard-to-watch "Nip/Tuck" and more are here.

Not unusual

I forgot to point out earlier that Alfonso Ribeiro ended up winning the worst reality show ever. He seems like a good guy, so let's pay a little tribute.

LoVe in the time of caller, uh

So, with the big "Veronica Mars" third season premiere tomorrow/tonight I had planned on doing a phone interview with Jason Dohring - known more commonly as the super-dreamy dreamboat Logan Echolls - but ol' J-Doh wasn't available until late Friday night when we were getting our new computers at work (verdict from a page designer collegue: "the fun pages are a huge pain in the ass so far," I hope he realizes how ironic that sounds) and sadly it didn't happen, to the disappointment of teenage girls everywhere. And me. Mostly me.

Since you're all curious, I felt it only fair to share with the world the list of questions I tirelessly worked on for the interview that, tragically, was not to be:

1) OMG is this really you? You're like so cool!

2) Do you know how cool you are?

3) So, like, are you as hot in real life as you are on TV?

4) What's your favorite part about being on "Veronica Mars"...and your LEAST favorite?

5) Who's a better kisser, Kristen Bell or the girl that played Lily's corpse?

6) Why are you so awesome?

7) When you were doing mean things to Veronica in season one, didn't you realize how mean that was?

8) Are you sorry?

9) Do you want to be my friend?

10) Did you draw upon your own real life background, as the son of a millionaire entrepreneur, for much of the angst expressed by Logan throughout the series, and do your close ties to Scientology, a religion disdained by much of the American population, help shape your portrayal of an outsider that often has a hard time relating to his peers?

Frak Party 2: The Pajama Jam

With no "Frak Party" scheduled within 50 miles of my zip code (I guess people here are more concerned with "hanging out" or "doing things" on Friday nights), it looks like people in the Valley area just aren't as psyched about the Battlestar Galactica season 3 premiere as they should be (or they've read the rampant spoilers out there on the Internet). So you're all welcome over to my place this Friday (I will be in my "Number 6" costume so I should be easy to recognize).

Here's some preferred snacks (it is two hours, after all):

- Chipotle
- Bagel Bites
- Morningstar Farms Chick'n Nuggets
- Wheat Thins
- Count Chocoula
- Um...I think that's about all I like to eat.

What became of you, my love

While watching "The West Wing," I mean, uh, "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," I noticed something great in the credits - Lucy Davis. That's right, the one and the only original "Office" reception, Dawn Tinsley (who I very unpopularly yet steadfastly insist is hotter than Pam). Of course, she only had like one line, but who needs more than that when you can debate the merit of Moliere jokes?

Now I'm hearing Dennis Miller talk on Conan about the jury's still out on global warming. I think I've got an idea for a "Studio 60" sketch! "Crazy Global Warming Skeptics!"

The show is still weirdly flawed. The show gets its best ratings in 14 years in key young demos with ROB REINER as guest host? Put this thing on the Sci Fi why don't'cha.

Jim dandy

I watched the first episode of "Help Me Help You" over the weekend, and it wasn't bad. There was one character, though, that stuck out - played by Jim Rash (Andrew on "Reno 911"), he's an effete, bespectacled bald gentleman that was in denial of his blatant homosexuality, something that's obvious to all the other characters. Pretty funny, right?

Well, it could be funnier.

It's October! And has been since over a day! My my, how time flies.

Man, this guy looks like a real dork. I will, however, be eternally grateful to him for helping me get the phrase "load of bunk" into the paper. I could totally write for Archie Comics. "The Bachelor" is one of those reality shows that surely no one cares about any longer (see "Apprentice, The") but is still on because I guess there are some people out there who just watch TV because they've watched it before (very lazy people). And because it's cheap to make.

The Bachelor: Rome
8 p.m., ABC

“Someday my prince will come” is probably a load of bunk, but this year's contestants on “The Bachelor” hope it's true. Lorenzo Borghese, an actual prince of some kind born in Milan, Italy, is this year’s titular bachelor, and even though he was raised in the United States this season will take place in Rome.

30 Studio Night Rock on the Sunset Stip Live

What a shock, a season premiere with no new cast members and a host that was on less than a year ago is...not that interesting. Aside from Brandon Flowers' mustache, of course.
