Other news

- Adrianne Curry's blog is apparently awesome. Who would guess such a thing? It's made the rounds this week, due to the original "Top Model" winner's declaration that though slavery "does suck some major balls," it's "time to move the fuck on." Bold. And, you know. Disturbing.

- You gotta dig all these specific references to time in this TMZ-Kiefer Sutherland-DUI story. Picture them being preceded by a digital clock and dramatic countdown sounds.

- "Nashville" has been canceled. I was not aware that it had started. The symmetry of it being replaced by "K-Ville" is not unnoticed, though.

- "HIMYM" was very funny Monday night, but I think we can consider any future "lower-back tatoo on slutty girls" jokes, starting with "Wedding Crashers" and ending with that episode, yes, wait, for it...

- I still haven't watched "Chuck," "Heroes" or "Reaper." I fail at life. However, Channel Surfing correspondent Justin Shapiro has weighed in with these insightful words on the "Heroes" season premiere: "That little girl is sassy. I would probably sass the shit out of people if I had Mohinder and fatty as My Two Dads."

Other news

- Here's a funny addendum to Monday's "How I Met Your Mother," where we got to see Barney's awesome apartment for the first time. Although confusing a Clonetrooper for a Stormtrooper lost them some points in my book for sure.

- If you dug last week's "Veronica Mars," peep this video about the 1971 "Stanford Prison Experiment," which was the inspiration for last week's eppy. For those looking for videos of the band Stanford Prison Experiment, you might want to try www.marginalmid90sbandsthatiactuallydontrememebratalloutsideofthename.com. Oh, it's (not) real.

- "They"'re making a "Transformers" movie, don't you know, and the producers are holding an online contest for fans to write a line of dialogue for Optimus Prime to say during the movie, taking a much more direct path than "Snakes on a Plane" or the "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch" line in "X-Men: The Last Stand" as far as "letting Internet geeks write our movie" goes. Asking for trouble. Here are some of the actual contenders:

"Do a barrel roll!" - Dustin, Baltimore, MD

"These pretzels are making me thirsty!" - Bill, Ottawa, IL (but popularized by George Costanza, New York, NY)

"Alpha Trion said there'd be days like this." - Jason, Methuen, MA

I guess that last one's supposed to be...serious? Seems like a waste. In other news, this is the first result on a Google image search for "Optimus Prime."

- Although I might be harsh at times on "Studio 60," I'm no Pia Guerra, co-creator of awesome comic book "Y: The Last Man" (if you ask me nicely, I'll let you borrow my copies). Here's what she opined on fellow comic book creator Brian Michael Bendis' message board:
I gave it two episodes and I'm done. Last night's show was painful. Just painful. If the characters have to wave their arms saying "WE'RE IMPORTANT! WE'RE FUNNY! WE'RE REVOLUTIONARY" then chances are they aren't. The cell phone sketch wasn't funny, the executives fighting for relevant television was laughable, and everyone falling over themselves over Sting made me gag. And I'm a fan of Sting... before he got all sappy and shitty anyway but all the yoga loving socio-progressives haven't noticed that yet I guess.

I was moaning during Lahti's loathesome speech about the right and left coming together once a week in Perry's relationship (pleeeeze!) and then I was screaming at the tv when his character says he picked that song just for her! Holy crap! Can you make yourself look any more loser-ish with such crappy dialogue!?

I'm sorry but has anyone seen any of the zillion documentaries out there about SNL? Those guys don't sit around wondering aloud how their humour will change society! They're just writing gags! Their primary concerns are A) get a laugh out of their bit, B) hope to god their piece of airtime doesn't get cut after the rehearsal show, and C) stick around long enough to get a sweet movie deal so they can get out of that hellhole.

Oh but this is studio 60! It's an ideal show, just like Chicago Hope was the ideal hospital and the West Wing was the ideal White House Administration. Problem with ideals is that it turns into a wank fest. "Oh look how enlightened we are, this is how things SHOULD be run. Sting and tolerance and integrity all around!" And then it becomes complete fantasy.

I don't believe any of these people or situations and that's why I too am dropping it.

Other news

"SNL" has announced some upcoming hosts - Jaime Pressly, John C. Reilly and Hugh Laurie. From "Poison Ivy 3: "The New Seduction" to "Saturday Night Live" host in under a decade. Good going.

"Cartoon Network Completes Production on First Original Live-Action Movie, 'Re-Animated'" - not really sticking with their strengths, is it? Also sends sort of a mixed message.

"Studio 60" has fallen to third place in just three weeks, beaten by "CSI: Miami" and "The Bachelor"...that's right, even with "Pimp My Trike." Hey, I'm not the only person who thinks the sketches suck.

"Eurkea" is just about renewed. It didn't take a town full of super-geniuses to see that one coming! Right?! Get it? Like the show?

Other news

- Unintentional comedy: radio ads for this week's "House" have ol' Greg saying "The lab couldn't identify the metal. They don't even think it's terrestrial." in a real dramatic voice, like that's a big mysterious plot point. But in the actual episode (and the "scenes from next week teaser on the season premiere) it's just a quick gag, and he immediately says, "No. It's titanium" and that's pretty much the end of that.

- If you haven't heard or seen it yet, Keith Olbermann laid the smackdown on Bush pretty bad Monday night. It's a way better read than your average Dan Patrick ESPN the Magazine column. It was the second boldest political condemnation I saw on 9/11, after this Ted Rall comic strip.

- Finally, a good use for all those Gregory Itzin shower pictures I've somehow accumulated over the years! In other "24" news, Babe's owner is Jack Bauer's dad. I would not have guessed.

- Tomorrow is the first day for Meredith Vieria on "Today." which means those "It's a New Day" commercials might finally stop.

- Looks like Patton Oswalt got his wish!

- This is such a non-story, and it's annoying to see how many places it's popping up. Not only can we obviously not discount the possibility of Eva Longoria ever doing TV again (and nor can she - and if she does, she'll get taunted for these comments), but with people like Kiefer Sutherland finding so much success in TV, it's actually a little insulting to see her go back to the "TV good, movies better" mentality. But I still wanna say hi to her at the Hispanic Women's Conference in Phoenix.

- Some dude won "Big Brother." I know very few people who will admit to seeing a "Big Brother," even by accident.

- Not only is John Leguizamo going to be on a new Spike TV show, he's also apparently a terrible person.

- Music videos in old tyme settings are officially tired - The Killers, Panic! at the Disco, now Evanescence. And that song. YIKES.

- Alanis Morissette as the love interest of Liz Cruz on "Nip/Tuck"? She could do better (I'm talking about Liz).

- Don't forget about the Ricky Gervais video podcasts!

Other news

- Despite the controversy surrounding "The Path to 9/11," it aired tonight and the world continued to turn (although it did see some editing). Even less shocking, it sucked. A friend (noted cultural historian Austin Woods) shares: "I find it very weird that '24' comes off as more realistic than a movie that is supposed to be based on true events." Although how much can you dislike something with Jimmy James as counter-terrorism expert Richard Clarke?

- Apparently, Patton Oswalt is among the...many? that loooove "The Wire." How much? Thiiiiis much.

- Jenna Fischer, Dunder-Mifflin's Pam Beesley, has updated her MySpace blog (it's really her - a novel concept for MySpace) with some season 3 pictures. There's some discourse in the comments about whether or not a wedding ring was edited out from a picture of Roy - HMM. Whether or not the actor who plays Roy is married and was just wearing his own ring between takes was not really considered. Apparently Rashida Jones is joining the cast, who I will never forgive for bailing out on "Stella" after one episode (probably a good career move).

- Heard "The Final Countdown" on a Diet Pepsi commercial today. Gob's influence will live forever. Come on.

- David Bromstad won HGTV's "Design Star," aka my mother's favorite reality show. I'm sure we're all excited for him to host one of many completely indistinguishable design shows.
