So, apparently Ellen will be hosting next year's Oscars. Everyone loves Ms. DeGeneres, and it's a good, mass-appealing choice, but Jon Stewart last year gave the procedings an air of "I'll be respectful, but not buy into all the inherent B.S. one finds at an award show." Even if the consensus was that he kind of bombed (no one asked me, sadly). Ellen is a nice comedian for the nice people, but seems much more like a "safe" Billy Crystal or Whoopi Goldberg-type pick. Oh well. If they wanted to play the middle ground between Stewart/Chris Rock-esque EDGINESS! and playing on the safe side, Steve Martin was really great the last couple of times he hosted. But the Oscars are still a long time away (Feb. 25, enough time to gestate roughly 2/3 of a baby), so my furious anger will probably have subsided by then. Probably.
